Product code: Rare Vintage Small Two Handle Pewter Porringer English 1800s shop

This is a small pewter porringer, English, 19th century, of unknown maker. It has two handles, which is less common. The porringer has a nice patina and is in good condition with only minor scratches and one small dent in the side, The mark on the bottom shows a crown over an X, meaning it is English and presumably but not certified of excellent quality. There is no maker's mark, as is common with 19th century pewter, especially with plates. A Pewterbank study of pewter pieces with crown over X shows many such marks, the closest of which to this piece is by Thomas Holgate of Liverpool, which would date this as 1835-1846. A decent guess, but just a guess.

The little porringer measures 4.25" across the top with a 2.5" bowl, sitting on a 2" rounded bas. It is just 1" high. Would make a nice addition to a collection or perhaps a coin or paper clip dish on a bureau or desk. shop
