World War I “CAMP GREETINGS” Silk Bandanna, Choice Extremely Fine. Unlisted in “Threads of History"! Printed in blue ink on white silk, with a border of red and white stripes with white stars on a blue field on each corner. A large central image depicts a campground with dozens of pitched tents fading into the distance, with soldiers standing in the shop foreground.
Beneath is a short poem (in full):
“By the camp fire they are dreaming of the little home they love
While the quiet stars are beaming like dear watchful eyes above;
A nation's joys are its beautiful boys, with their brave and smiling faces;
In them you'll find the unconquerable mind, that doubt and despair displaces.
O, the boys of Yankee land, you'll find them good and true !
They're ready at command and where there's work to do
He'll never drop and he never will stop, it takes a good lot to do him.
He learns at school the unbreakable rule of never evading duty.”
