Several years ago on an early Fall day, I was walking down the road with my dog, Sadie and found a dragonfly lying on the road. It was a large blue-green dragonfly that was still alive but unable to fly. I gently picked it up and I held it while it firmly grasped my finger. It was a sunny day, but the road was cool in the shade of tall evergreens on both sides. I've heard that dragonflies need warmth in order to fly, so I carried it home on my warm finger to our sunny yard. On the way home I gazed in wonder at this other-worldly creature, the magic, color and light unlike anything we see in our daily lives. I hoped shop that once recharged with heat the fairy-like creature would take off. Sadly, her light was fading. Gradually the blues and greens faded to gray. Her spirit had taken flight and left her body still clasped onto my finger.
These sterling silver earrings are a smaller version of my Dragonfly Earring design. They have an articulated tail made of an arrangement of tiny silver beads and silver wire wrap. The movement of the articulated tail give them a graceful liveliness.
